Jakarta Fashion Week 2013_Day 1_Lie Sang Bong

Ahhhh YES!!! It’s that time of the year again… when all the incredible designers from Indonesia come together for one week of colour and magic and incredible fashion shows… I have looked forward to attending ever since I first arrived in Jakarta in 2009, and I haven’t missed a year yet as I absolutely love it!

This year Fashion Week was held at Plaza Senayan for the first time and incorporated more international designers than previous years… and as the theme for this year goes “Indonesia Today, The World Tomorrow”.

Unfortunately my camera decided to give me grief as soon as the Opening Show started, and the shutter button got stuck and only worked very randomly… but Lie Sang Bong’s collection was beautiful with his butterfly and graphic themes taking to the stage to start the week….

Winged Gas Bottles at Salihara..

I saw this cool installation at Salihara Festival last month – old gas bottles transformed into winged creatures…. I absolutely loved this, and also the stunning dance performance we watched (and unfortunately couldn’t photograph)… Check out Salihara in Pasar Minggu (salihara.org/ ) for future events, there’s always something unusual and wonderful happening there.

Crazy gas bottles flying above us….

The Joy of Riding a Vespa!

Putra and Pasti on the side of the road lagi….

As super cool as they are, and believe me, there are hundreds of them on the streets in Jakarta…. this is also a regular sight for all Vespa riders….. constantly changing spark plugs, blowing tyres, randomly not starting, pushing them along the side of the road…. but I know the vespa community here wouldn’t have it any other way!

Oh, and can anyone explain why every time we pass small children on this vespa they stop, stand and salute to us???? Are we missing something?? It’s very funny and very cute, but I am completely bingung…

Rafi at home..

New pet toys from Australia

…and back to the sketch pad again….

Working on a drawing together… I drew the head and Rafi working his magic on the outfit 🙂

I was so happy to see Rafi, Shinta and the family on their return from their first trip to Melbourne for Festival Indonesia… It was a great success overall with six shows in total over the week… and lots of meetings in between… so I was happy to see Rafi taking a break and playing with his new toys from Australia – full of colour as is everything in his life – I love it…. and then of course, it was straight back to the sketch book as always to make some more beautiful designs 🙂

m.e at Instyle Fashion Festival

Some bad quality photos backstage from my phone 😀

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to my dear friend Martha on her first participation in a fashion show here in Jakarta! The first look of her new m.e resort collection was shown to a huge crowd at the Instyle fashion festival at the Mazda stage JiExpo Kemayoran last Sunday.

Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to view the models on the catwalk, as I was backstage, but if you want a taste of m.e designs, head to marthaellen.com.

I am so proud of you Martha and can’t wait for your next show!

Last Monday saw Rafi return to Jakarta after a successful and fun trip to Melbourne to appear in Festival Indonesia’s fashion shows.  He held six shows overall showcasing his childrenswear designs and womenswear collection that was made especially for his first International showing.

I had the pleasure of photographing the garments before their trip and love the way that Rafi is able to mix and match traditional fabrics and colours for a rainbow collection on the runway.

Wishing you continued success always Rafi!

Roller Boogie at Blok M Square

A huge thank you to Cipta and the crew at goodguysneverwin toy co. for the super fun night at Blok M Square 80’s Roller Boogie…  The theme was 1986 and the music took me back to my youth, the outfits made me laugh, and the dance moves were hysterical as we skated for hours around the rink…  amazingly I managed to stay upright all night but saw some spectacular crashes… Stay tuned for our WLJ Episode 3 coming soon for a look at the expats and locals having a rad time at Blok M!

Early in the evening at the Roller disco

A fun night for kids and adults.. next theme is Halloween!

Getting some speed up!
