Tompi at Hard Rock Cafe

Today was the Press Release and Radio Launch Concert of Tompi’s album Tak Pernah Setengah Hati “Never Half a Heart”at Hard Rock Cafe. This was my first taste of Indonesian jazz music and the Press were treated to a beautiful song he sang with his adorable children.

Tompi’s video clip and album cover were made in Australia to give a different feel to his previous work and managed to give me a twinge of homesickness while watching it..

Kidzania at Pacific Place

WOW! Finally we got to visit the infamous Kidzania at Pacific Place and what an experience it was… Firstly, you have to check in and purchase your tickets at the Air Asia counter before passing through airport style security and into this crazy world of little people….

Kidzania is a truly unique experience aimed at children aged 4-16 years and is a whole city built indoors especially to child size with roads, buildings, retail stores and vehicles that run through the city. In this city, the children have the chance to play adult roles in more than 100 professions including Police, Doctors, Pilots, Construction Workers, Archaeologists and even Check-Out Chicks…

Kidzania has a Hospital, Supermarket, Salon, Theatre, Industrial Area, and more where children wear uniforms and perform the role they have chosen and earn the offical currency of Kidzos for their efforts. These wages can then be used to purchase goods or use services run by children such as the Beauty Salon, Tattoo Parlour or Bar (complete with mini billiards tables..).

Kidzania provides a sensory overload and has to be seen to be believed…. I felt like Alice in Wonderland in there as I have never seen anything like it before in my life. Don’t forget to pass through the Immigration Department for your departure… Enjoy!

Children get the chance to be Firemen and ride around the city on a fire truck and put out a burning building..

Super Kids excursion to Rumah Tanah Baru, Depok

Rumah Tanah Baru is the former residence of famous Indonesian ceramicist F. Widayanto and the beautiful architecture is a mixture of traditional Javanese and Betawai elements and ornaments. It has lush green garden surrounds and is the perfect place to visit and be santai. I was fortunate to visit with the lovely teachers and children of Super Kids on their excursion, and although at first I thought it was a funny place to take curious children as the ceramics were so delicate, it was great to see them all immerse themselves in their projects of making clay models.

Thanks Super Kids for another fun day in Jakarta…

The 17th Anniversary of APPMI, Mulia Hotel

The Indonesian Fashion Designers Association (APPMI) celebrated it’s 17th Anniversary by selecting 17 designers to showcase 7 masterpieces each. Held in the Ballroom of the luxurious Mulia Hotel over two days, the aim was to introduce and promote the APPMI designers to editors, media and all lovers of fashion.

Not only was there incredible talent shown in the fashions on the catwalk, but there were also dancers in the most beautiful traditional costumes and singers also entertained the guests. Dinner was held before the final show and included the most decadent selection of food ranging from bowls of soup with pastry covering, salmon pie, rice and meat to chocolate and nut covered slices of ice-cream and a huge chocolate fountain for fondue.

A special mention should also go to the stunning models who gracefully walked in their high heels with legs sometimes tangled in fabric and yet still managed to smile and stay standing.
