Oh WOW! What a lovely place to get married at… and I bet there wasn’t half as much macet to get there 32 years ago! So many beautiful places to visit in Jakarta… thanks so much for your message and hope you enjoy our blog… Hati hati
Hi, we (my husband & I) walked down to the cathedral yesterday, it’s so pretty. Didn’t go in because we were too tired from the walk, but your pictures are telling me to go right back in. I haven’t found too many interesting things to do in Jakarta yet, but am still trying. Any suggestions?
Hi again Aarti! Oh where did you walk from yesterday? There’s so much to discover… If you were near the Cathedral, I am guessing that you went into Istiqlal Mosque too? Also in walking distance is Monas which is great to sit and people watch, even better to go to when there is an event on and it is jammed packed with smiling faces! Then you can walk to Ragusa Ice Cream on Jalan Veteran I No 10… It’s the first Italian ice creamery in Jakarta and has been there for years and is always packed and a fun experience…
Have you been to Kota Tua? You can hire bikes and ride around the old city and look at all the old buildings and visit the port of Sunda Kelapa nearby, before retiring back to Cafe Batavia for a drink and people watching in the square outside…
Other places to visit around Jakarta you may like – Thousand Islands… catch a boat over and discover some of the lovely islands.. just a short trip from Jakarta and feels like another world! Tebet is cute – Jalan Tibet Utara Dalam, Cafes and shops for the young cool kids (ha!), Kemang has LOADS of cafes, bars, restaurants along Jalan Benda (Kedai Cafe, Loca Cafe, Beer Garden) and Kemang Raya and there are shops to browse in, galleries to look in…. Upstairs at BarCode in Kemang is great on a balmy night and has great live music in the open air. Ancol is fun to visit… but always packed on public holidays…. There are soooo many places… and soooo many MALLS! Grand Indonesia is huge with a dancing water fountain and loads of cafes upstairs, cinema, etc…. Pacific Place has delicious Potato Head cafe/bar, Kidzania (this place is bizarre and worth a visit even if you don’t have kids!), and a great cinema where you can lie on beds with a pillow and blanket to watch a movie (ha!)… beware you will not feel like leaving the cinema when the movie finishes.. too comfy and can get food and drinks delivered… then check out the event calendars on the internet… there is always something happening and soooo many places I haven’t mentioned here…
Catolic catedral in Jakarta, is a nice place.
I got merried there, 32 years a go.
Nice picture.
Regards
