Dian Pelangi is one of my favourite young Indonesian designers as her clothes are always bright and colourful as she draws her colour palette inspiration from the colours of the rainbow for her stunning fashion-forward Muslim designs. She mines Indonesia’s rich heritage for inspiration, from vivid tie-dye and exquisite songkat to lavish batik.

Her personal interpretation breaks the conventional designs of Muslim fashion and for this Fashion Forward show, her collection was inspired by Africa and the show was named “The Safari Troops’, with all the motifs and textiles designed by Dian.

The soft colours and tones of Musa’s collection gave it a rather dream-like quality… very beautiful and classic designs and I always love to see his use of traditional Indonesian fabrics. Beautiful!

This ended up being the last day that I was able to attend JFW 2013 due to schedule changes and other commitments I already had… but what a beautiful day and full of colour!  I LOVED these bold patterns and colours by Stephanus Hamy.. what a great way to start the day… gorgeous textiles that left me happy, although I got teary with happiness to watch him helped up to the stage at the end of the show without his wheelchair… amazing talent!

Jakarta Fashion Week 2013_Day 2_Grazia Glitz & Glam

Oh what a shame! On the second day of Jakarta Fashion Week 2013, due to storms and heavy rain, the Fashion Tent was put out of action due to flooding and suffered structural damage… this meant that many shows had to be cancelled and postponed, but the Grazia Glitz & Glam show was moved into the Atrium at Plaza Senayan… after some initial confusion I finally made it down just in time for the show by designers Asmirandah, Dimas Beck, Iwet Ramadhan, Luna Maya and Marissa Nasution.

Well done to the organisers of JFW 2013 for your quick thinking and action so that this show could still go ahead!

I loved these sculptured garments designed by the super talented Sebastian Gunawan… the textiles look like a mix of mosaic tiles and stained glass windows and the matching shoes were incredible and I’m surprised that the models managed to stay upright walking in them!
